2009 CGS/NSF Workshop: Globalizing Graduate Education and Research

    April 20, 2009

    Arlington, Virginia

The 2009 CGS/NSF Dean in Residence Workshop addressed the opportunities and challenges associated with international graduate education, collaboration, experience and research. Bringing together nearly 100 graduate deans, NSF officers and managers, and representatives from international science funding bodies and business, industry, and non-profit sectors, the workshop was driven by three goals:

    1. To consider the manifold opportunities inherent in international experiences
    2. To address why building international research and education infrastructure is important for advancing transformational research and human talent in the U.S.
    3. To identify the challenges currently faced, and the ways in which NSF directorates, leaders of the graduate community and others can and do work together to overcome these challenges, and begin to develop best practice recommendations.
