The eighth biennial study on the Financial Experience & Behaviors Among Women uncovers optimism about recovering markets and encouraging short-term improvements, but troubling long-term trends.
We examined financial literacy among the young using the most recent wave of the 1997 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth. We showed that financial literacy is low; fewer than one-third of young adults possess basic knowledge of interest rates, inflation and risk diversification. Financial literacy was strongly related to sociodemographic characteristics and family financial sophistication.

Dr. Michael Gutter of the University of Florida recently completed an independent evaluation of high school personal finance standards. Through research at 15 college campuses across the U.S., Gutter examined the relationship between exposure to varying state mandates for high school financial education and college students' financial knowledge, financial dispositions, and financial behaviors.
Financial Socialization Family Pathways: Reflections from College Students' Narratives

This study explored 217 college students’ narratives about financial socialization experiences in their families. Using a deductive coding and interpretation strategy grounded in existing literature, identified themes and sub-themes provided richer descriptions of financial socialization processes than currently exist. Parental modeling and direct teaching led to both positive and negative young adult behaviors.
